Founded in 2016 by music enthusiasts and passionate entrepreneurs, The Root Down aims to be the most hospitable and nurturing music space for professional and developing artists, industry, and music lovers.
The Root Down is approximately 2000 sq. ft., with a 900 sq ft live room. It is private, you don’t share walls with any other band. The live room is finely tuned, equipped with vintage and high-end gear like amps, instruments, PA, floor monitors, X32, recording equipment, a projector, and more. If we don’t have it, just ask us - we’ll find it. There is a lounge with couch and TV, kitchenette, storage room, auxiliary control room, and private patio.The lounge has a window that faces the live room so that it can act as a green room, control room, meeting space, bar, or even just to take a nap between takes.
The staff takes care to ensure every experience is unique, personalized and tuned to your needs.

standard room rates
Our standard rate is $50/hr. 4-hour minimum
Multi-track recording setup fee: $150
Daily lockout rates $500/day.
Special events - case by case basis
We will provide priority access and pricing to artists and organizations from underrepresented communities and those with increased barriers to the music industry. i.e. LGBTQ2S+, BIPOC, women, trans, non-binary, disabled, etc.
We are a Jerk-Free Zone. The Root Down is committed to providing an environment free of discrimination and harassment, where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, can contribute fully and have equal opportunities. We encourage an open dialog and embrace all identities. We will ban/charge a jackass tax to anyone who is an irredeemable jerk.
Accessibility: The space is not fully accessible for those with physical disabilities. We are located in a basement with no elevator, there are multiple flights of stairs and single steps between rooms. At the front entrance, there are 2 small flights of stairs, separated by a landing, approximately 5-6 steps each, with a step down to the main room, both washrooms have a step up to get to them, and the rear exit is made up of 3 steps to a landing, and then a full flight of concrete stairs. A ramp is not viable for the way the stairs are constructed.
